Does chai tea have caffeine in it? The short answer is yes. Read on for the long answer.
Chai tea has been enjoyed by different peoples and cultures all over the world for centuries, both for it’s wonderful taste and also for the many health benefits it has to offer.
Among these many benefits include the fact that it helps to give your immune system a boost, fights inflammation, improves circulation, helps control cholesterol, and is also great for your digestive system. In addition, chai tea has antioxidant properties which also promote good health.
The reason it’s so tasty is because of the many herbs and spices used in making it. These can vary as there are lots of different recipes for chai tea, but some of the most commonly used include cinnamon, cardomom, nutmeg, fennel and ginger.
As well as the herbs and spices, chai tea is made using black or green tea, milk and a sweetener such as honey or sugar (either brown or white).
Despite the health benefits it brings, an important question for many people to consider is whether there is caffeine in chai tea and, if so, how much?
Does chai tea have caffeine in it and if so, how much?
The short answer is yes, chai tea does have caffeine in it. So if you’re looking for a drink that’s caffeine-free you’ll need to look elsewhere. That said, there is far less caffeine in chai tea than is found in coffee.
Indeed, one cup of normal coffee contains about two or three times as much caffeine as one cup of chai tea. And strong coffee will contain about six times as much.
So if you’re only looking to reduce your caffeine intake rather than completely cutting it out, chai tea offers a refreshingly tasty and healthy alternative to coffee.
This is of particular interest during pregnancy, of course, when you need to watch your caffeine intake more carefully. There’s an extra bonus that comes from switching from coffee to chai tea during pregnancy too – the ginger it contains will help reduce any pregnancy-related nausea.
Just one word of caution: although chai tea is generally perfectly safe for anyone to drink, you should check with your doctor first if you’re on any medications, just to be on the safe side.
