We all want to have flawless, smooth skin and to that end we spend small fortunes on creams and other skin treatments. In truth though, the condition of your skin depends on three basic influences:
- Genetic predisposition.
- What is happening inside your body, i.e. nourishment and any illness.
- External factors, in the form of whatever you may have exposed your skin to.
It’s true that you’ve got no control over any inherited genes that may affect your skin. But when it comes to external factors and nourishment, you do in fact have a strong element of control. That is, of course, if you should choose to exercise that control. This is especially true of what you eat and drink; in other words, your diet.
Why your diet matters
All your body requires certain levels of essential nutrients. And every single organ has specific needs. The skin, which is the largest of all your organs, is no different from the others. Apart, that is, from the fact that you can see the results of your diet on your skin clearly for yourself.
Those nutrients that you need must come from what you consume. This, of course, includes your every day diet of food and drink. It also includes any supplementation with essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids.
The effect of diet on your skin
The message is quite clear. Look after your diet, look after your health, and the skin then has all it needs to look after itself. So to set yourself well on the way to that perfect skin you’ve always wanted, you should aim to:
- Eat a balanced healthy diet.
- Choose supplements that target the skin’s essential needs.
- Eat lots of fresh fruits and fruit juices.
- Drink lots of filtered alkaline water.
- Consume essential fatty acids such as those found in fish oils.
- Eat all those fresh vegetables which you know you should be.
